Why Field Feedback Drives Safety at HF
At HF, safety is a continuous conversation, not a static rulebook. This week, as part of our ongoing commitment to No Falls Week, our site teams took part in a vital toolbox talk centred on a simple but critical principle – using the right equipment every single time!
Whether our engineers are working at height on commercial rooftops, routing complex cabling in industrial facilities, or working on telecoms infrastructure, the equipment they choose makes all the difference. From ladders and podium steps to heavy-duty scaffolding and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), there is no room for compromise or cutting corners with “makeshift” solutions.

Bridging the Gap: The Value of Site Feedback
What made this latest toolbox talk incredibly valuable wasn’t just the review of safety protocols, it was the active, two-way feedback from our guys on the ground.
Safety policies are designed in offices, but they are lived out on live construction sites and active industrial floors. Getting direct feedback from our engineers about what equipment works seamlessly in practice, and identifying the practical challenges they face with certain setups, is how we continually improve.
By listening to the frontline teams, we ensure that:
- Our safety gear remains practical, accessible, and fit for purpose.
- We invest in the exact tools and containment solutions our teams need to work efficiently without compromising security.
- Our risk assessments remain dynamic and rooted in real-world site conditions.
A Culture of Safety
Falls from height remain the leading cause of workplace fatalities across the UK engineering and construction sectors. Preventing these incidents requires more than just high-quality PPE; it requires an open culture where engineers actively participate in safety planning, double-check their kit and feel entirely empowered to speak up if a piece of equipment isn’t right for the task at hand.
A huge thank you to our site teams for their sharp insights and engagement during today’s session. By working together and sharing feedback, we keep our standards high and ensure everyone returns home safely at the end of the day.
