With the 2020 Olympics set the begin, you may not be aware that this years event will mark a first for those who receive the Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.
The metals used to make these medals will come from recycled electronic waste!
In 2020, we created around 55 million tonnes of what is referred to as e-waste. And this total is only set to go up and more and more of us buy electronic products that are designed with shorter life cycles and minimal options for repairs to prolong its life.
So rather than add all those precious metals to landfill like we have done for far too long, the Olympic Games are taking all this e-waste and recycled the Gold, Silver and Bronze to make new medals for the competitors.
