The Foundations

The origins of HF and our company philosophy can be traced back to 1897. It was in this year that the company’s original founder, Hugh M. Fulton, began his career as an electrical apprentice.
Working for a company called Claude Hamilton—a name well-known in the early days of Scottish electrification—Hugh Fulton began to master the trade. Over the following decades, he transitioned from apprentice to master electrician, eventually becoming one of the most highly regarded figures in the Scottish electrical industry.
His dedication to the craft and the ‘family culture’ he established during those early years remains the core of the business today, spanning across three centuries of service.
A landmark year for the family business. Hugh Fulton Electrical Ltd was officially founded, formalising our commitment to providing premier electrical contracting services. This era marked the beginning of our modern expansion and established the “HF” name as a hallmark of quality in the Scottish engineering landscape.
Recognising the need to serve the East of Scotland, we opened our Edinburgh branch. This established the “HF” name as a hallmark of quality across Scotland’s two major cities.
