Our History

The origins of HF and our company philosophy can be traced back to 1897. It was in this year that the company’s original founder, Hugh M. Fulton, began his career as an electrical apprentice.

Working for a company called Claude Hamilton—a name well-known in the early days of Scottish electrification—Hugh Fulton began to master the trade. Over the following decades, he transitioned from apprentice to master electrician, eventually becoming one of the most highly regarded figures in the Scottish electrical industry.

His dedication to the craft and the ‘family culture’ he established during those early years remains the core of the business today, spanning across three centuries of service.

Recognising the need to serve the East of Scotland, we opened our Edinburgh branch. This established the “HF” name as a hallmark of quality across Scotland’s two major cities.

As the company grew, we moved from Osbourne Street to Albert Drive in Pollokshields. Which we still call home.

Recognising the shift toward a connected world, HF Comms Ltd was established. This division allowed the Group to provide specialist telecommunications and network infrastructure, serving the rapidly evolving needs of the UK’s digital landscape.

We integrated Mechanical services into our core offering. Operating under the Electrical division, this team laid the groundwork for our integrated M&E solutions, focusing on plumbing, heating, and HVAC.

We expanded our physical footprint to Northern Ireland with the opening of our Belfast branch, bringing our multi-disciplinary engineering services to a new market and supporting local infrastructure projects.

In 2021, HF Group took a strategic step into digital media by bringing Lundie Media into the fold. This partnership allows us to communicate our engineering successes through high-end digital content and modern marketing, ensuring our brand remains as forward-thinking as our engineering.

Following years of sustained growth, our Aberdeen branch moved to its current, upgraded location in Souterhill Road. This investment provides the modern facilities needed to support our expanding team and service capabilities in the region.
