Proudly recognising the selfless actions of one of our engineers

The recent Storm Babet has cost many people across the East Coast of Scotland terrible hardship and has unfortunately even taken the lives of others who have been caught in the heavy wind, rain and flooding.

With red and amber weather warnings across so much of the country during the storm, we have been advising all of our engineers to take extra care because safety is our highest priority for everyone in the HF family.

Yet despite so many dark news stories related to the storm, we wanted to shine a light on the efforts of one of our engineers Norman, who last week helped rescue a father and son who were involved in a scary accident right in front of him.

While following a high sided vehicle, a strong gust of wind caused the vehicle to loose control, blowing it off the road before overturning three times and coming to rest in the river just off the main road.

Our engineer Norman immediately parked up safely, called the emergency services after witnessing the severity of the accident then, upon assessment of the situation sped to action.

Thankfully, the water that the vehicle landed in was not overly deep or fast flowing so our engineer Norman wadded through the water to assist. He was able to safely extract both the Father and Son from the vehicle before allowing them to recover from the shocking ordeal in his HF vehicle. As a trained First Aider he administered first aid and gave them some warm clothing whilst they waited in the safety of his parked vehicle to keep them warm until the Emergency Services arrived.

Thankfully, both passenger involved in the high sided vehicle crash were okay though the situation could have been a lot worse.

Safety is always our priority at HF. Individually and collectively we are all responsible. We are incredibly proud to see that one of our four main values as a company has been so well reflected in the efforts undertaken from our engineer Norman to help others in need during such a dangerous incident.

While there has been so many sad stories related to the storm, we feel that this is a really positive story regarding one of our employees actions and we wanted to highlight and give recognition to Norman for what he did.

We are as good as our people and Norman is a great example of our team.
