Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Today is World Environment Day.  And at HF, we are continuing our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, enhancing sustainability, and championing our ‘Harm Free’ Campaign both within our group and with our suppliers.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

At HF, we recognise the pressing need to address climate change and its far-reaching impacts. That is why, for 2024, we have implemented several new initiatives aimed at reducing our carbon footprint. Key measures include:

• Energy Efficiency: We have upgraded our facilities with energy-efficient lighting, motion sensors for lighting and a range of other energy saving measures to help significantly lowering our energy consumption.
• Renewable Energy: Our investment in solar panels at our branches in Glasgow and Manchester has enabled us to generate a substantial portion of our energy needs from renewable sources.
• Internal Initiatives: We have launched internal green energy initiatives to both encourage members of our team to suggest ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint while also highlighting the range of things that can be done by our team to reduce waste.

These efforts have resulted in a substantial reduction in our overall carbon emissions, marking a significant step towards carbon neutrality.

Embracing Sustainability

Whether it be solar pv installations, EV charging systems or energy efficient LED lighting upgrades, sustainability is at the heart of so many of the things that we do at HF. We strive to integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of our business, from procurement to production and distribution.

These efforts not only reduce our environmental impact but also contribute to a more sustainable supply chain, benefiting both our company and the communities we serve.

Our ‘Harm Free’ Campaign

Our ‘Harm Free’ Campaign encapsulates our dedication to fostering a safe and sustainable future. Originally launched in 2023, the campaign has grown to focuse on three core areas:

1. Carbon Footprint: We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through a range of initiatives.
2. Health & Safety: Safety is always our priority. Individually and collectively, we are all responsible.
3. Innovation for Sustainability: From the new electric vehicle we have added to our fleet to our investment in solar panels, reduction in printing, energy saving lighting solutions…we are constantly looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our ‘Harm Free’ Campaign has already seen success, with numerous projects making an impact to get us closer to our goals. So as we celebrate World Environment Day, we are reminded of the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. We are proud to contribute to this global effort, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainability. By continuing to reduce our carbon footprint, embrace sustainable practices, and drive our ‘Harm Free’ Campaign, we hope we are contributing and are paving the way for a safer and more sustainable future.
