Fettes College

Our Mechanical and Electrical Services team was tasked with delivering a comprehensive “All Trades Package” for Fettes College, one of Edinburgh’s leading schools, during the summer holidays. The project involved converting outdated changing rooms in two of the school’s boarding houses into modern, functional study rooms, ready in time for the start of the new academic term.

The project needed to be completed within a tight deadline during the summer break while ensuring minimal disruption to the school’s schedule. The scope involved significant structural changes, mechanical and electrical services, and required seamless coordination between our two teams.

We oversaw the entire transformation of the space. This involved removal of existing walls and structures and the installation of new ceilings, walls, and flooring to meet the design specifications of the study rooms.

Our electricians executed the complete rewiring of the new study rooms, which included installation of electrical wiring throughout the spaces and placement of all electrical sockets required for the new study rooms. We setup of state-of-the-art LED lighting, providing optimal brightness for the rooms intended usage, all while boosting energy efficiency. This included individual lighting fixtures installed for each study bench, ensuring a focused environment for each student.

Our Mechanical team handled all aspects of the heating system in the newly created study rooms. The work included alterations to the existing heating pipework to accommodate the new layout and ensuring a comfortable and regulated temperature in each study room for year-round use.

Project Challenges: Because of the set deadline for completion, this project was efficiently managed from start to finish ensuring it was successfully completed on time, with all work finishing ahead of the school reopening for the new term. The collaboration between our mechanical and electrical teams highlights the efficiency of our integrated approach at HF, ensuring the new study rooms were both highly functional and aesthetically pleasing.
