In a resounding testament to the quality of training and exceptional talent nurtured at HF, one of our outstanding electricians, Callan, has been crowned the overall winner at the prestigious Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB)/Edmundson Electrical Ltd Awards Final.

The entire HF team is bursting with pride following Callan’s remarkable achievement, which elevates him from a talented apprentice to a recognised leader among his peers in the electrical industry. A Journey to the Top

Callan’s journey to the winner’s circle began with his performance on the FICA Exam, the final step for electrical apprentices in Scotland. Out of over 800 candidates nationwide, his score was exceptional, placing him firmly in the top ten. This impressive result secured him an invitation to the final interview stage—an intensive process designed to assess not just technical knowledge, but also critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and industry awareness.

Following this challenging interview, Callan was announced as one of just three finalists. Simply reaching this stage was a massive achievement, highlighting the exceptional standard of his apprenticeship. However, Callan’s dedication, professionalism, and expertise shone through on the final day, earning him the coveted top prize.

“We are absolutely ecstatic for Callan, his success is a direct reflection of his dedication and the high-calibre training he’s received. Seeing an HF apprentice recognised at a national level like this reinforces our commitment to developing the very best talent in the industry. Callan embodies the kind of skilled, motivated, and conscientious professional we aim to produce.”

Building Future Industry Leaders

Callan’s success is intrinsically linked to the structured, supportive, and challenging environment of the HF Apprentice Programme. At HF, we don’t just hire apprentices; we invest in the future leaders of our industry. We believe that a successful career begins with a strong foundation, which is why our programme goes beyond the mandatory training to instil a deep understanding of industry best practices, safety, and our core company values.

Our programme is built on the philosophy that hands-on experience, guided mentorship, and exposure to diverse projects are crucial for holistic development. Apprentices work alongside highly experienced, time-served electricians across a wide array of sectors—from complex commercial installations to intricate industrial projects. This diversity ensures they develop a comprehensive skill set that prepares them for any challenge in their future careers.

We provide a consistent framework of support, pairing each apprentice with dedicated mentors who act as both teachers and role models. This mentorship ensures personalised guidance, focusing on not only technical competence but also the development of essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and client management. This commitment to all-round development is what allows our apprentices, like Callan, to excel in high-pressure environments and competitive national awards.

Driven by Our Core Values

Callan’s achievement is a perfect illustration of the power of our HF Company Values in action. These values are the bedrock of our company culture and guide every aspect of our business, from project execution to talent development.

By grounding our apprentice programme in these core values, we ensure that our graduating apprentices are not only technically proficient but also professional, responsible, and ethical members of the trade.

Looking Ahead

Callan’s victory marks a proud moment for the entire HF Group and sets a fantastic precedent for all current and future apprentices. It highlights that with the right talent, the right training, and the right support system, an HF apprentice can achieve the highest accolades in the industry.

We extend our deepest congratulations to Callan once again. His journey is a powerful Career Story that inspires us all and underscores our ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and shaping the future of the electrical trade in Scotland and beyond.
