Brief Project Description: We recently completed a comprehensive multi-service installation for a new outdoor activity centre in Twecher. The facility, purpose-built to support a wide range of outdoor pursuits and educational programmes, required extensive mechanical, electrical, heating and fire & security installations to deliver a modern, functional and safe environment.

HF’s full-service offering brought significant value to this project. By coordinating across multiple in-house divisions, we were able to offer the client a seamless delivery of all core services with a consistent standard of quality and project management. Something that few contractors in the market can match.

Scope of Works

Electrical Installations

Our Electrical team was responsible for a wide range of installations across the new centre, both internally and externally:

  • Mains power supply, distribution boards and cabling for the entire site.
  • Installation of plug sockets, LED lighting, and external electrical supply for the main building, storage areas, bathrooms and ancillary facilities.
  • Supply and installation of external street lighting to support the new access road, designed and installed to fully comply with the local council’s specifications, as the road will be adopted by the council upon project handover.
  • Installation of cable trays — with bespoke fabrications in certain areas, such as the kayak storage room where the trays needed to rise and fall around equipment to avoid obstructing operations.
  • Dimming lighting systems and intelligent control units fitted in the centre’s conference and meeting rooms to provide flexible, user-friendly lighting options.
  • Outdoor lighting and weatherproof electrical points for bathrooms, store rooms and external areas.
  • Installation of electric radiators where required for efficient space heating.
  • Deployment of multiple distribution boards, including separate systems for the building and for the street lighting to support the future council transfer.

Mechanical & Plumbing Installations

Our Mechanical team completed a full installation of:

  • Toilets, showers and sanitary ware across the centre.
  • Plumbing and drainage networks to serve all wet areas.
  • Supply and installation of thermal-efficient lagged piping throughout.
  • Mechanical Ventilation/Heat Recovery System throughout for internal air quality and comfort.
  • Temperature Maintenance for Hot Water System (to prevent legionella disease)
  • Trace Heating for Frost Protection

Fire & Security Systems

HF’s Fire & Security division designed and installed a complete safety and security solution for the facility:

  • Access control systems for secure, managed entry and exit.
  • A full suite of CCTV for site surveillance.
  • Intruder alarm system to safeguard the property during off-hours.
  • Emergency lighting throughout for safety compliance.
  • Comprehensive fire alarm system with aspirating smoke detectors for early fire detection, ensuring the highest level of life safety for staff and visitors.

Project Challenges: One of the primary challenges on this project was the need to coordinate around a complex site schedule, where multiple other contractors were active. Building contractors managing the new building construction, landscaping crews installing pathways, green spaces and signage as well as painters and decorators handling final finishes inside the building. Not to mention the specialist contractors used for surfacing the new access road and car park.

Whether it is the fit out work for an outdoor centre, bar, restaurant, office or one of the many other sectors we work in HF’s teams needed to work flexibly and precisely to a dynamic project programme, ensuring that our work meets key client deadlines without disruption to other trades on site. By maintaining excellent communication, detailed scheduling and proactive on-site management, we successfully delivered our installations to a high standard and on time.

This project highlights the key strengths that HF brings to complex installations. Our ability to deliver multi-discipline services under one roof means reduced risk and streamlined project management for the client. Consistent quality and integrity across every division ensures that all installations, from electrical to mechanical to fire & security, meet the same high standard. And because we are an in-house team that works collaboratively, we reduce the typical issues caused by sub-contracting and ensure greater project cohesion. Clients can trust that by appointing HF, they are working with a team that places quality, safety, and operational performance at the core of everything we do.

HF is proud to have supported the development of the new outdoor centre at Twecher, providing a robust and high-quality mechanical, electrical, heating and security installation that will serve the facility and its visitors for many years to come.

This project reflects not only the technical expertise of our teams, but also our reputation for collaborative working, integrity and dependable delivery — values that set HF apart in the industry.
