The HF Green Energy team completed the installation and commissioning of a Dual 7kW ‘Gecko’ EV charging point at Brucefields Children’s Home in Stirling. The project required significant civil works, including a machine dig across soft ground to lay power and data ducting, alongside the installation of a soakaway and concrete-encased node box. Despite the logistical hurdles of a three-day timeline and heavy April rains, the team overcame a major technical challenge involving an obsolete distribution board. Since matching components were no longer manufactured, the engineers successfully integrated a new distribution board into a congested space to ensure a safe and modern electrical supply.
The HF Green Energy team were in Stirling this month installing and commissioning a new 1 Nr Dual 7Kw ‘Gecko’ EV Charging point at Brucefields Childrens Home, Stirling. To install the new EV Charging System, our team had to lay the groundwork for the installation to be completed. This involved carrying out a machine dig across soft ground from the main building at Brucefield Children’s Home to the proposed location that the EV Chargers would be installed. Once the dig work had been completed, we could install ductwork (one for power and one data duct), install a ‘soak away’ 1.5 m away from the node box and encase the node box in concrete with the Power pack inside.
Project Challenges: When it comes to EV Charging Installation, if the site of the EV charger is away from any existing (suitable) electrical supply, there is always challenges with the electrical installation. Due to the age of the existing distribution board, the MCB’s & RCD’S/RCBO’s are no longer manufactured for this type and therefore could not be sourced. To work around this challenging problem, our electrical team had to brainstorm a solution that involved fitting a new distribution board into an already congested area.
As this was an external installation and the installation was taking place in April, we had to deal with heavy rain during the civil works before the weather cleared during the EV charger fitting and we were able to commission the new system successfully on the third day.
