On September 10, 1990, a new chapter began for HF and a young electrician looking to forge a career in the industry.
24-year-old Stuart Dron walked through the doors for the first time, embarking on a journey that (has, so far) spanned three and a half decades; leaving an indelible mark on our company. As we celebrate his 35th anniversary, we reflect on Stuart’s career, dedication, growth and unwavering commitment to the HF family.
Right from the off, Stuart’s first assignment was a true “trial by fire.” He was tasked with an electrical job for a close friend of HF’s owner, Hugh Fulton. The pressure to perform was on in a deliberate choice to test Stuarts skills and character from day one.
In an era when mobile phones were a rarity and HF was still a growing Glasgow-based company, Stuart’s professionalism and expertise shone through. He quickly proved he was the right man for the job, specialising in high-end domestic electrical work and establishing a reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and reliability. It was this that blended so effortlessly with our own companies reputation, laying the foundations for our future growth, showing clients that HF wasn’t just another contractor but a provider of exceptional, high-quality service.
From the Tools to the Office
After three years in the field, Stuart’s talents were recognised in a new way. He was brought in to assist the electrical estimating department, a move that would help shape the future of what is now known as our Small Works Division. This transition was seamless, as Stuart’s hands-on experience gave him a unique and invaluable perspective on project costs, timelines, and the practicalities of a job. His keen eye for detail and understanding of the electrical trade from the ground up made him a natural fit for this role.
Over the next few years, Stuart helped to refine the estimating process, ensuring that HF’s quotes were not only competitive but also accurate and transparent. He played an important role in building the Small Works Division, turning it into a key part of our business and bridging the gap between initial client conversations and successful project completion.
Over the last 35 years, Stuart Dron hasn’t just been an employee; he has become an integral part of the HF family. In his dual role as both an Estimator and Contract Manager, his dedication to client satisfaction and his ability to manage complex projects have earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
But perhaps even more importantly, Stuart has helped us retain the core values that HF has become so well known for. His integrity, commitment to quality, and quiet leadership have served as a constant reminder of what matters most. He embodies the very principles that Hugh Fulton first built this company on: hard work, reliability and treating every job, no matter how big or small, with the utmost care and professionalism. Stuart’s unwavering focus on these values has ensured that even as we have grown into a nationwide brand, we have never lost our sense of purpose or our commitment to our people and our clients. His mentorship of younger staff members and his willingness to share his extensive knowledge have also been invaluable in passing on the HF ethos to the next generation.
Stuarts journey from a 24-year-old electrician to a respected Estimator and Contract Manager is a testament to his character, talent and the very real career opportunities that we offer at HF. He is a great example of what it means to grow with a company and help it thrive.
On behalf of everyone at HF, from the newest apprentice to the senior leadership team, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Stuart Dron on 35 incredible years. Your hard work, loyalty, and unwavering dedication have helped build the company we are today. Here’s to Stuart. We look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you.
