HF was engaged by Mitchells & Butlers, working alongside main contractor Dickie & Moore, to deliver a comprehensive mechanical and electrical refurbishment of The Commodore in Helensburgh. This project was part of a major venue refresh, focusing on modern functionality, aesthetic appeal, and significant energy efficiency improvements.
Key highlights of the project included:
Complete Lighting & Atmosphere Control: We replaced all internal lighting with high-efficiency LED fixtures and integrated state-of-the-art dimming control panels, allowing for precise management of the venue’s ambiance across different times of day.
Extensive External Enhancements: To elevate the outdoor experience, our team installed nearly 100 metres of festoon lighting in the beer garden, alongside new perimeter LED security lighting to improve site visibility and safety.
Specialist Kitchen Electricals: Our engineers fitted out new electrical supplies for the commercial kitchen, including dedicated safety emergency shut-off switches for high-powered appliances like industrial fryers.
Modern Plumbing & Heating Upgrades: The project involved a full refurbishment of the guest facilities, including the installation of a new accessible WC. We also modernised the heating system with new controls and high-efficiency radiators to ensure consistent year-round comfort.
Customer Convenience: Addressing modern demands, we installed a significant number of new power points throughout the dining and bar areas, incorporating USB charging ports for patron use.

This project was part of a wider refurbishment designed to elevate the customer experience through thoughtful design and modern functionality while ensuring the site operates efficiently and safely.
Our electrical team carried out an extensive upgrade across the venue, with works including:
Full Lighting Upgrade:
Replacement of all existing lighting fixtures with high-efficiency LED lighting, improving energy performance and enhancing the ambience of the venue.
New Lighting Design Integration:
Installation of additional lighting points throughout the pub, strategically placed to complement the new interior design layout and improve lighting flexibility in both dining and bar areas.
Dimming Control System:
Integration of state-of-the-art dimming control panels, enabling staff to easily adjust lighting levels to suit the time of day, seasons and different functions within the venue.
Power & Convenience Upgrades:
Installation of a significant number of new power sockets, including USB charging points, addressing long-standing issues with inadequate power availability for both staff and customers.
Commercial Kitchen Electrical Installations:
Fit-out of new electrical supplies for kitchen equipment, coupled with the installation of dedicated safety switches to control high-powered appliances such as fryers. This improves operational safety by allowing emergency shut-off where necessary.
External Lighting Enhancements:

Plumbing Works: We completed a full refurbishment of the toilets, installing new basins and taps. We also upgraded the water and drainage services and installed a brand-new accessible WC. In the commercial kitchen, we performed essential plumbing installations to support the new layout and appliances.
