After a fault was reported in the Pump House supply cable at Eastwood Golf Club during the spring, our NICEIC Approved Electricians were called in to identify and rectify the issue promptly.A thorough investigation was conducted using specialised equipment, including a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator, to trace the fault along the cable route. Repeated scans from both ends revealed that the underground cable had been completely severed.
Once the fault was pinpointed, excavation was carried out by a groundworks sub-contractor to access the damaged area. Two cable joints and a new section of cable were installed, restoring the Pump House’s power supply.
After a fault in the Pump House supply cable at Eastwood Golf Club was reported in the Spring time, it was up to our NICEIC Approved Electricians to find the source of the problem.
A thorough investigation was conducted by our electrician and groundworks operatives to identify and rectify the issue. The investigation employed a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator to trace the fault along the cable route. The fault was located by scanning repeatedly from both ends of the cable.
A Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) is a specialised device used for detecting and locating underground utilities, such as electrical cables, pipes, and telecommunications lines. Its primary purpose is to prevent accidental damage to these utilities during excavation or construction activities.
Having used the CAT to trace the fault, we found that the cable was fully severed below ground level.
Excavation was performed by a groundworks sub-contractor to access the damaged area before the two cable joints and a new section of cable were installed to restore the connection.
After installation, the power supply to the Pump House was retested and reinstated.
Due to the compromised insulation resistance, we recommended for the replacement of the entire Pump House supply cable to prevent any future faults and ensure long-term reliability.
Thanks to the work of our Electricians and the results of using CAT to locate the issue, we minimised any excavation required and have helped the Golf Club to address the issue.
