With reduced energy bills and lower maintenance costs, it is easy to understand why warehouses and storage facilities are so keen to make the switch to LED lighting solutions.
Brighter, more energy efficient and with a longer lifespan; LED lighting is helping warehouses become a safer environment with well lit indoor areas that no longer suffer from the frequent flickering of fluorescent lighting fixtures which also give off a disconcerting buzzing noise.
Why LED Lighting is so effective in Warehouse Environments
What makes LED such a popular choice is that there is not just one or two benefits to switching to this energy saving form of lighting, there are a number of real benefits including:
Increased colour rendering
In a warehouse environment where natural light is so limited, having lighting that helps to properly illuminate a working environment is vitally important. LED lighting has a strong Colour Rendering Index (CRI). This is is a measurement of lights ability to reveal the colours of objects in comparison to an ideal light source – aka natural light from the sun. LED light bulbs have a high CRI. This means that in darker environments with low levels of natural light, LED lighting can illuminate more objects in a surrounding area thanks to a higher CRI.
Reduced heat output
Older lighting solutions such as halogen bulbs give off more heat energy than they do light energy. LED lights are able to operate at a significantly lower temperature compared to fluorescent or halogen lighting fixtures and what little heat they do give off is actually dissipated in a special heat sink within the light fixture. And because LEDs do not emit infrared radiation, they are ideal for lighting heat sensitive areas traditionally found in warehouses and storage facilities.
Increased Brightness and Intensity
LED lighting is capable of emitting a far higher level of light power compared to halogen or fluorescent lightning fixtures while requiring a lot less energy to do it. This means that not only do you cut your warehouse energy bills but you actually need less LED lighting fixtures (depending on what type of LED light fighting you select) to light the room to the same intensity as before.
Long Life
A warehouse traditionally has higher ceilings with lighting fixture locations that are difficult to access without ladder systems. The components of an LED light and the way that they generate light means that they have a far greater lifespan than other light sources. A traditional light bulbs filament will weaken over time which causes the bulb to burn out – LEDs do not burn out. An LED’s bulb produces low heat levels, is durable and energy efficient which makes it possible to outlast other light bulb types by thousands of hours. This means that maintenance requirements for LED lighting is far less and can be easily scheduled into other maintenance plans in a warehouse setting.
