Client: Tranent, East Lothian
Completion date: November 2023
HF divisions involved: Electrical
Brief project description: As part of the upgrades to a working farm in Tranent, East Lothian, the client turned to HF to assist them with the new electrical installation work they required.
They were looking for new sub-main supplies to five of their existing out buildings along with additional areas of the farm and needing an electrical contractor with experience of these kind of electrical installations in an agricultural setting.
Before we could begin the electrical installation, we first had to liaise with Scottish Power to move and upgrade the farms existing main electrical incoming supply.
The existing supply was simply too small and out dated to handle the new installation that the client was requiring. Scottish Power were able to complete this work with no issues and once completed, we were able to get to work.
Our electricians supplied and installed a new EIGHT WAY Electrical Panel Board in building #1, complete with main isolator and S.P.D protection with MCB’s for all outgoing circuits (the five out buildings) and KWH meter for proposed gym supply circuit.
The electrical work covered:
Building #2 – Used as the farms office, we installed a 6 way, 3 phase distribution board.
Building #3 – Used as the farms Tool Store, we fitted an 8 way single phase distribution board.
Building #4 – In this Farm Shed & Vehicle Storage Building, we installed a 6 way three phase distribution board
Building #5 – In the farms cattle shed and straw shed we fitted a 6 way three phase distribution board.
Building #6 – This building is being renovated to become a proposed gym and in advance of any fitout works, we installed an 8 way three phase distribution board.
In the farm buildings #1, #3, #4 and #6 our electricians also fitted new LED flood lighting and double socket fittings at the new sub-main distribution board to help make any future work easier.
In building #5, we incorporated the existing electrical circuits (after inspection) into the new sub-main board.
Project Challenges: The main challenge with this project was completing the electrical installation work around an active farm with both livestock and heavy machinery.
This is where experience counts and specifically our experience of working in fully operational environments such as active farms.
