The Millwood

Client: Admiral Taverns
Project length: 3 weeks
Completion date: August 23
HF divisions involved:

Plumbing, Heating & AC

Brief project description: In July, a popular local Glasgow bar closed for refurbishment and a rebrand. Once the doors had closed on what was known as Finlay’s Bar our electricians, plumbers and gas engineers could get to work on the fit out work.

With a tight deadline to complete the work before the renamed bar opened again in August, our team had to complete all required mechanical and electrical work to a strict schedule. All while working around other contractors so that painters and decorators could complete the refit in time for the scheduled reopening date.

Our electricians were responsible for the complete electrical wiring of the venue. This involved both the fitting of completely new electrical wiring as well as the replacement of old electrical fittings in the venue.

A big part of the new bar redesign is the entertainment systems which required a complete rewiring; while behind the bar, we also fitted new electrical supply points and rewired older electrical fittings to meet the clients requirements.

On the Mechanical side, we removed the old, inefficient water meter and replaced it with a new one and fitted a new Worcester Bosch boiler that was linked to a Google Nest thermostat system. The new heating system was made complete with the installation of new radiators throughout the venue.

The ladies bathroom was completely refurbished by our team with new fittings and plumbing work and we also installed a new fan convector above the main entrance door.  An ideal feature to welcome guests into the new pub when the Scottish Winter rolls in.

Project Challenges: Time was the biggest challenge on this project.  The pub had announced on social media both their closure and opening days and this had been picked up by numerous news outlets. This meant that deadlines had to be met and there was no room for error.

At HF, we have become one of the leading electrical and mechanical installers for the hospitality industry and have proven time and time again that we can deliver when it comes to tight deadlines.  So while the project timeline was tight, it posed no serious concerns for our engineers who, as always, delivered quality work for the client.

All the work was completed on time and the venue, known rebranded as ‘The Millwood’ was able to successfully open as intended in August.
