Fire & Security
Brief Project Description: HF Fire & Security was commissioned to design and install a comprehensive, state-of-the-art fire and security system for Alzheimer Scotland’s fantastic new head office. This central facility is vital for supporting individuals and families across Scotland living with dementia. The project involved the seamless integration of a new Fire Detection and Alarm System, Security Access Control, Intruder Alarm System, and complete System Wiring, ensuring a safe, secure, and fully compliant environment for their continued, invaluable work.
Alzheimer Scotland’s new head office is poised to become a central hub for their essential work, offering support and resources to thousands of families. Creating a safe, welcoming, and secure environment was paramount for this critical infrastructure project, demanding reliable, high-specification fire and security systems.
Given the importance of maintaining business continuity and protecting staff and visitors, we were tasked with delivering a complete, integrated safety solution that would embed seamlessly into the new office infrastructure.
The main goals of the project were:
To install a comprehensive, state-of-the-art Fire Detection and Alarm System.
To secure the premises with modern Security Access Control and an Intruder Alarm System.
To ensure all systems were fully integrated through Complete System Wiring.
To provide an efficient and compliant method for testing hard-to-access fire detectors for long-term safety assurance.
HF Fire & Security was selected for this installation due to our proven capability in designing and implementing complex, multi-system installations within new build commercial environments.
Our Fire & Security engineers delivered a full suite of systems tailored to the modern office environment:
1. Fire Detection and Alarm System The installation includes a robust, fully compliant Fire Detection and Alarm System designed to provide rapid warning and ensure the safety of all occupants. This system is the cornerstone of the building’s life safety measures.
2. Security Access Control and Intruder Alarm To protect the staff, assets, and sensitive data of Alzheimer Scotland, we installed an advanced Security Access Control system to manage entry points, alongside a high-performance Intruder Alarm System to provide reliable protection outside of operational hours.
3. Integration and Wiring The entire installation was delivered with complete system wiring, ensuring that all detection, control, and alarm systems communicate flawlessly and operate reliably over the long term.
A key component of this project’s long-term value is the integration of the Scorpion® Smoke Testing System for any smoke detectors installed in challenging, hard-to-access locations within the new office structure (e.g., in high voids or service shafts).
This innovative technology offers substantial benefits for compliance and maintenance:
Remote Functional Testing: Scorpion® allows detectors to be tested remotely from a safe, accessible control panel, eliminating the need for engineers to physically access high or complex locations.
Safety and Efficiency: It removes the safety risks and costs associated with working at height and streamlines testing, ensuring every detector is verified as operational without disrupting the charity’s daily work.
Achieving Full Compliance: This system ensures that Alzheimer Scotland can consistently meet UK fire safety standards (including BS 5839), which require every detector to be functionally tested at regular maintenance intervals, regardless of location.
The successful installation of the comprehensive fire and security systems provides Alzheimer Scotland with a secure and fully compliant new head office:
Comprehensive Safety: The new facility benefits from a complete, integrated safety net, covering fire detection, access control, and intruder security.
Secure Environment: The robust security systems ensure staff, visitors, and resources are protected, allowing the team to focus on their essential charitable mission.
Operational Efficiency: The inclusion of advanced maintenance solutions (including Scorpion®) guarantees that future compliance and system maintenance will be safe, cost-effective, and non-disruptive.
